“An extraordinary achievement for our city,” publicly commented Mario Baccini, Mayor of Fiumicino.
For Comar Yachts’ smallest multihull, and the smallest among the participants, it was an adventure blending technique and great emotions, concluded in the best possible way.
From the diary of Flavia Guardigli:
An Adventure of Skill and Great Emotions
After bringing our C Cat 38 multihull, Bellamossa Città di Fiumicino, to the Canary Islands during the summer holidays, one of the most thrilling adventures of our lives began on November 24th: the Atlantic Ocean crossing as part of the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers).
A total of 148 boats participated, including 45 catamarans, where Bellamossa Città di Fiumicino was the smallest. This, however, did not intimidate us: every mile we sailed was a tribute to our preparation, the vessel’s sturdiness, and the spirit of our crew.
Life on Board: Between Work and Wonder
Despite the challenges, the crossing was an unforgettable experience. The crew quickly adapted to life on board and the shifts, but we never gave up the joy of a full meal shared around the table. Moments of calm were precious: we indulged in cooking, preparing cakes, yogurt, and ricotta, and used our fresh catches – vibrant mahi-mahi and sleek, tuna – to create dishes that delighted everyone.
We read books, exercised, and were captivated by the sunrises and sunsets, which painted the sky in ever-changing colors. The nights, sometimes pitch-black, sometimes illuminated by countless stars, reminded us of the ocean’s grandeur. The gentle yet powerful movement of the waves cradled us, enchanting us every day.
The Arrival: A Shared Achievement
After 19 days at sea, we arrived in Saint Lucia with hearts full of serenity. The crossing gave us more than just a finish line: it was a life experience. We reached the Caribbean more rested and united than when we started, aware that we had lived through an adventure that would remain etched in our memories forever.
On board were Massimo Guardigli, Flavia Proietti, Alessandro Guardigli, Cristiana Monina, and Giuseppe Cattani: each with their unique expertise, all united by the commitment to bring Bellamossa Città di Fiumicino safely and swiftly to the Caribbean. They proved that even a small boat can cross the ocean with speed and safety.
This crossing was not just a technical challenge but a journey of emotions, connection, and discovery, teaching us to experience the ocean with respect and gratitude.
