Comar Yachts continues its longstanding tradition of building highly customizable yachts, a hallmark of the shipyard. In addition to the tailored features favored by owners, every vessel launched in Fiumicino benefits from a variety of components crafted directly at the shipyard. Following the in-house production of woodwork, metalwork, and painting, Comar now also manufactures its carbon masts on-site. This approach enables greater quality control and optimizes production and delivery times for both Comet and C-Cat models. The mast manufacturing process takes place in a dedicated area within the yard, handled by skilled technicians using “pre-preg” technology. Pre-preg, short for pre-impregnated materials, refers to composite, fiber-reinforced materials in which the matrix material, typically epoxy resin, is already incorporated. Using carbon pre-preg represents a significant innovation, offering multiple benefits: exceptional strength and lightness allow for extremely lightweight structures without compromising durability; superior quality and precision are achieved through consistent fiber impregnation with resin, ensuring top-tier finishes; and enhanced performance is guaranteed, making the masts of Comet and C-Cat yachts highly resilient to extreme stresses. “We chose this technology because it’s reserved for components that require specific and demanding standards,” explains Amerigo Guardigli from Comar’s technical studio.
