Once again, Valerio Savino, at the helm of Hydra, the elegant and spirited Comet 36s, is dominating the vibrant sailing scene of Apulia, a sea long known for its high-level challenges and true displays of seamanship.
After taking third place overall in ORC and winning his class (ORC 2) at the Pizzomunno Cup, one of the most prestigious regattas on the Gargano calendar, Savino and his tight-knit crew stood out among a field of top competitors, proving once again that Hydra never fears the most competitive waters. It is no coincidence that Hydra was chosen as the cover image for the regatta, a fitting symbol of her charismatic and successful presence.
The season, however, had even more to offer. Savino went on to climb the top step of the podium by winning the Trofeo Scalera, now in its eighth edition. Though officially a sailing rally, the event attracts over 40 boats, many of them highly competitive, making it a regatta in every sense. It is a heartfelt and spectacular occasion, where competition and camaraderie come together in memory of fellow sailor Andrea Scalera, and where the day at sea ends with the traditional dockside barbecue.
“In real time, we finished just behind Moon Shine, a 60-foot high-performance racer, and Furia, an IY 14.98 that is extremely fast even in her cruising version,” says Savino, who continues to distinguish himself on some of the toughest racecourses, driven by passion and determination.
With increasingly impressive results and a yacht that combines elegance, speed, and reliability, Hydra continues on her winning course, proudly representing the Comet 36s and all those who, like Valerio Savino, live sailing as both sport and challenge.
