It’s nice to see that Luca Lualdi, the historic owner of the Comet 45s, after many regattas and numerous successes, has decided to participate for the first time in the Rolex Middle Sea Race, and this is certainly an exciting event. The Rolex Middle Sea Race is a highly challenging regatta covering 606 miles, with a picturesque start passing through the bastions of La Valletta, Malta. It then sails counterclockwise around Sicily, crossing the Strait of Messina and passing through places like Stromboli, Favignana, Pantelleria, and Lampedusa before returning to the starting point. It’s a captivating but also demanding challenge due to the weather conditions, currents, and waves that can be encountered along the route.
The weather forecast of gusts up to 40 knots makes this edition particularly challenging right from the start. Luca Lualdi and his crew, consisting of Nicola Brunotti, co-skipper Otto Cimarosti, Louis Fournier, Elizaveta, Francesco Berardi, and Marco Morosi, seem ready to take on this adventure after dedicating time to prepare the boat for the competition.
