Great Satisfaction for the C Cats in the Second Riva-Montecristo Regatta. The C Cats enjoyed considerable success in the second Riva-Montecristo, a 142-mile regatta organized by the Circolo Nautico Riva di Traiano. The race began at Riva di Traiano, involved circumnavigating Montecristo, and concluded back at the starting point with an open course. Of the four multihulls competing, three were C Cats that went head-to-head over the weekend: the C Cat 48 “Orcamiseria” helmed by Giuseppe Ercole, “Gaia” captained by Marco Negri, and the new C Cat 38 “Bellamossa” skippered by Massimo Guardigli. The latter two vied for the double-handed classification.

The weather was variable, starting with a thermal wind that shifted significantly. A long swell developed as the wind funneled through the straits, fluctuating between medium-strong gusts of up to 17-18 knots and dead calms, causing several changes in the sailing conditions.

“We sailed the upwind leg and back, reaching speeds of up to 11 knots aboard Orcamiseria. It was a thrilling experience, as we practically had a match race with Gaia, with Marco Negri and I battling it out to the very last meter, not yielding an inch,” recounted one of the Orcamiseria crew members. They also noted the comfort of racing on a multihull compared to a monohull, humorously mentioning the ease of preparing meatballs during the race.

The final standings brought much satisfaction: in the MOCRA class, first place went to “Bellamossa” helmed by Guardigli, second “Orcamiseria” –  Ercole, and third to “Gaia” captained by Negri. In the overall real-time ranking, “Orcamiseria” secured second place, “Gaia” took third, and “Bellamossa” finished ninth. It’s worth noting that the fourth position was claimed by the ‘family’ boat, Comet 38s “Fahrenheit” skippered by Giuseppe Massoni.
