Leonardo Servi and Franco ‘Ciccio’ Manzoli are having a great time aboard the Comet 38s Scricca. This time, they have collected a bounty of awards at the Garmin Riva x 2: an offshore regatta of 220 miles from Riva di Traiano to Ventotene and back. This “prized duo” brought home the Trophy for first place in the Riva x2, along with awards for 2nd in the overall IRC ranking, 2nd in Riva x 2 ORC, and 3rd in overall ORC.
“We had a fantastic downwind and an exciting upwind, maximizing the boat’s potential,” comments Leonardo Servi. “During the upwind, we looked for an area where the wind wouldn’t exceed the anticipated 30 knots, but we found ourselves in a zone with too little wind, allowing the rest of the fleet to catch up. We add this Trophy to the one from La Roma x 2 that we won in 2018.”
“The second and third placements in the overall rankings are still excellent results, considering the level of the boats and teams participating,” says Manzoli. “There were some very strong boats that had also competed in the Fastnet. We managed to withstand gusts over 30 knots when we were near Santa Marinella and crossed the finish line with a memorable gybe!” concludes Ciccio Manzoli.
